Members of vulnerable people participated in the Artist-in-Residence program organized by the “Me to Ne” Project Committee in Nanbu, Tottori Prefecture in Japan.
We developed workshop programs for the “After-School Art Club” that they organize in empty classrooms at two elementary schools after school.
Together with the children, we referred to things that, though invisible to the eye, felt familiar or existed within their hearts as “friends.” Under the theme “Invisible Friends,” we drew pictures while engaging in dialogue.
We have now compiled these stories and words,
and—in true “vulnerable people ” style—we are releasing them as a picture book featuring text in both English and Japanese.

A creative project featuring elementary school students from Nanbu, Tottori Prefecture in Japan, and up-and-coming artists from Japan and abroad—the culmination of a year of creative activities!
The theme is *Imaginary Friends*.
This is an experimental collection that is at once an art book, a poetry collection,
and a book-shaped art object.
Created as part of an “Artist-in-Residence” program,
this work—born from fresh inspiration—
is cute and crazy,
and though lonely, overwhelmingly reassuring—
a mysterious worldview where such
contrasting charms coexist.
The emotions and messages of the creators,
nurtured through a life in harmony with nature,
are sure to offer encounters with a new “world”
and new insights!”
